The staggering rate of veteran suicide is a solemn reminder of the profound challenges
faced by those who have served our nation.

In the midst of this crisis, psychedelics have been at least one solution to this tragedy.

Psychedelic Organizations Supporting Veterans

    Heroic Hearts Project

    Jesse Gould, a former Army Ranger, was plagued by severe PTSD after he returned home from combat. After quitting his job as an investment banker, selling all of his possessions, and wandering the world, he found himself in an ayahuasca retreat in the jungles of Peru.

    To his surprise, Jesse found that his symptoms of PTSD disappeared after the retreat, and his life was forever changed. He started HHP in April of 2017 “because I wanted to give my fellow veterans a way to heal their PTSD that had worked for me.”

    VETS mission is to end the veteran suicide epidemic by providing resources, research, and advocacy for U.S. military veterans seeking psychedelic-assisted therapies for traumatic brain injury (TBI), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction, and other health conditions.

    Founded in 2022, the VIPS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research and educational organization that develops medical, legal, and cultural contexts for people to benefit from the careful uses of psychedelics and marijuana.

    FIRESIDE PROJECT

    Offers a FREE 24/7 hotline that is available to support any individual experiencing a difficult psychedelic experience or seeking support for integrating psychedelic experiences. They do provide veteran-specific support. 

  • Veteran’s Path: Provides high quality, veteran-specific mindfulness training and support to build inner strength and resilience. They offer veteran-led meditation resources for people of all experience levels, including those just starting to explore a mindfulness practice. 

  • Sound Off: a mental health resource for veterans, service members, and intelligence officers that allows for anonymity and repeat contact with clinicians or screened veteran peer supporters who have walked a similar path.

  • Wounded Warrior Project: A resource for veterans or service members who’ve sustained a physical or mental illness, injury, or wound while serving in the military on or after 9/11/2021. All services are free.

  • Cohen’s Veteran Network: Provides in-person and virtual mental health services and case management to post-9/11 veterans. They also offer marriage counseling, relationship counseling, and help with children’s behavioral issues.

  • The Headstrong Project: Provides confidential, barrier-free, and stigma-free PTSD treatment to servicemembers, veterans, and their families. The Headstrong Project provides up to 30 cost-free sessions as a part of their program, with additional low-cost support available.

  • Free Emergency Medical Care: Veterans who are in acute crisis may go to any VA or non-VA health care facility for treatment at no cost. Veterans do not need to be enrolled in the VA system. To be eligible, they must have completed more than 24 months of active service, served more than 100 days of combat in support of a contingency operation or been a victim of sexual assault while enlisted.
